Medicine Hat Point-in-Time Count will be happening on April 11, 2018 from 7-11pm. The count moves to April to align with the second national coordinated homeless count, taking place in more than 60 communities across Canada.

VOLUNTEERS: WE NEED YOU!
We are looking for 50 outgoing, friendly volunteers to complete a Point-in-Time Homeless Count. Volunteers will be sent out in teams to predetermined routes in and around Medicine Hat to administer a survey that is designed to gather information from individuals who are experiencing homelessness. Volunteers are required to register and attend a pre count training session on Wednesday April 4, from 6:30-7:30pm.

TO REGISTER
For more information and to register contact Tammy Hoffman via email thoffman@mhchs.ca or call 403.528.5178. Registration deadline is Noon on April 3, 2018.

VOLUNTEER TRAINING
All volunteers are required to attend a training session. Whether this is your first time volunteering with us, or you volunteered many times, attending a training session is very important to ensure a safe, positive experience during the count. To ensure that all volunteers are prepared in advance, training sessions will include information about what to expect during your shift, as well as an opportunity to ask questions and test the survey app.

EVENT OVERVIEW
On Wednesday April 11, 2018 the Medicine Hat Community Housing Society with work with community service providers and volunteers to count individuals that may be experiencing homelessness in Medicine Hat.  Homeless counts provide a snapshot of homelessness in our community and offer a mechanism to monitor changes and trends in the homeless population over time. The results of these counts will inform local, provincial and national efforts to prevent and end homelessness.

The third provincially-coordinated biennial Point-in-Time Count provides a current snapshot of the overall homeless population in Alberta and enables an examination of how homelessness might change over time.  Using aligned methods across the cities, trends can be identified using similar definitions.  Ultimately, the information gained from Alberta's coordinated Point-in-Time Count helps to inform solutions to support the goal of ending homelessness in our communities.
